1. Little Ballerina Dancing Book

By Fiona Watt  (Author), Maria Cristina Lo Cascio (Illustrator), Shelagh McNicholas (Illustrator)

This is absolutely gorgeous! It is beautifully illustrated and shows simple ballet steps for beginners. It’s possible I love this more than my toddler, and I’m not usually one for girly stuff but this book is really something special.

It features the most famous ballet classics that you are sure to recognise such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty and the sound quality is incredible.

2. Feelings: A lift-the-flap board book of emotions

By Pat-a-Cake (Author), Louise Forshaw (Illustrator)

Any parent of toddlers will see the value of this one! Those toddler tantrums and strops can be hard to deal with and any interactive book that may help them understand their feelings is a must-have!

Beautifully illustrated and with flaps to fold back, this book will interest toddlers and pre-schoolers alike. There are other books in the series dealing with themes such as kindness and families.

If you’re looking for helpful books to help with parenting toddlers then read the post as we all know how difficult this stage can be.

3. No More Nappies: A Potty-Training Book

By Campbell Books (Author), Marion Cocklico (Illustrator)

This is a super fun book for when you start to tackle toilet training. It’s nice to be able to get our little ones interested in an important subject through story time first.

Once you are underway with this skill in practice, you can still leave this by the potty or toilet for them to read while they are sat there (for ages sometimes!). It will help them associate positivity with this important life stage.

In this story, Millie and Mo move from nappies to the potty and to the toilet. There are flaps to open and parts to rotate which make it fun even with repeated reads. The pop-up features will get toddlers fully engaged.

There are more in the series from Campbell Books that help toddlers learn about other important life skills and milestones such as going to the dentist or the arrival of another baby.

4. Jungle Sounds

By Sam Taplin  (Author), Federica Lossa (Illustrator)

This is another magical sound book from Usbourne, they really are leading the way with interactive books for children! The quality of the animal sounds is outstanding and your toddler will love the jungle atmosphere. The sounds of the jungle include roaring tigers, lively monkeys and birds singing.

The colours and illustrations are vibrant and there are cut out shapes that make the features of the book stand out even more. Your toddler will love pressing the buttons on each page.

5. The Very Hungry Caterpillar

By Eric Carle (Author, Illustrator)

This is a real classic you may know of already. It’s not as interactive as more modern books but it still has flaps and cut out holes that toddlers can’t resist poking their fingers through.

This lovely bright book will excite your toddler and help them learn about change and growing up.

6. Sing Along With Me! The Wheels on the Bus

By Yu-hsuan Huang  (Author)]

Well, this is the complete opposite of the last simple classic. This book is a very modern take on interactive; you need to scan the QR code to play the sing-along-songs!

All the favourite songs for your toddler are here including the title song, Incy Wincy Spider, Row, Row, Row Your Boat and more. There are flaps to lift for your toddler and bright, fun pages to enjoy.

7. In the Jungle

By Axel Scheffler (Illustrator)

Another jungle book favourite as you can’t beat the excitement of this environment! This book is full of interactive features such as sliders to pull and tabs to push. Your toddler can count the animals while you read the rhyming text.

You will recognise the iconic work of Axel Scheffler, from his illustrations in The Gruffalo books. If you don’t, you will soon when your child is a bit older!

Questions and Answers on Interactive Books for Toddlers

How does interactive learning help children?

Interactive books and play help children to learn by engaging them in an active, rather than passive way and makes them feel they are in control. For toddlers, interactive learning is particularly good for their fine motor skills, as they need to press buttons and lift flaps which are tricky for little fingers.

Where can my child get access to interactive learning books?

You can use the affiliate links in this post for good prices but you can also support your local bookshop.

For free books, don’t forget to visit your local library for a wide selection or do a book swap with other parents, if your little ones are getting bored of the same books and need a refresh.

Why are interactive books so good for toddlers?

You may have been looking forward to reading your child your favourite stories at bedtime or on Sunday afternoons, but find your toddler isn’t really interested in a long story yet or easily distracted.

Toddlers have short attention spans so it will be a while till you can read them more tricky stories to follow, but do keep reading to them. Just stick to simpler, shorter stories or learning books for now.

Interactive learning books are perfect for toddlers because the music and tasks (buttons, tabs, etc.) keep their attention, gives them something to do and makes them feel part of story time.
